Peace of evening—
two sisters sharing
a nectarine

Liniştea serii –
două surori îşi impart
o nectarină

Hot day—
a poor child looking
at the gooseberries on the market stall

Zi caniculară -
un copil orfan priveşte coacăze
pe taraba din piaţă
*
August moon—
one, two, three . . . yellow leaves fall
from the cherry tree

Lună de august –
una, două, trei… frunze galbene cad
din cireş
*
In the cherry tree—
some dirty faces
and full bellies

În cireş –
câteva feţe murdare
şi burţi pline
*
Clear evening—
two children wrangle about
a handful of strawberries

Seară senină –
doi copii îşi dispută
o mână de căpşune
*
Wild cherry—
two copper-colored leaves
fall together

Cireş sălbatic –
două frunze arămii
cad împreună
*
Under the ripe cherry tree —
my grandma listens
the bird's song

Sub cireşul cules –
bunica mea ascultă
cântecul păsărilor
*
Flocks of starlings
picking up cherries—
I applaud at dawn

Stol de grauri
ciugulind cireşe –
aplaud în zori
*
At evening—
above the empty cherry tree
the new moon

Seara –
deasupra cireşului gol
luna nouă
